Energy-efficient glass options

Double-pane windows

Infinity's standard double-pane glass consists of two layers of glass with an insulating air space between them, providing enhanced thermal efficiency. Double-pane glass is exclusively available with the Traditional window profile.

Triple-pane windows

Triple-pane glass is exclusively available with the TriVue™ window profile and features three layers of glass separated by insulating air spaces, compared to the two layers found in standard double-pane windows. Triple-pane windows are the most energy-efficient window option.

Decorative glass

Ideal for the space that calls for natural sunlight indoors, decorative glass allows you to create the perfect combination of style and privacy in your new Infinity replacement windows and doors. Make a beautiful statement by choosing one of Infinity's decorative glass options.¹

Specialty glass

Tempered
Increases glass strength to help prevent breakage. This option is ideal for windows and doors that are close to the floor or located in high-traffic areas.

Laminated
Even more durable than tempered glass, laminated glass is often referred to as impact resistant or safety glass due to its vinyl interlayer that tends to remain in place when cracked.

STC/OITC
Sound Transmission Class and Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class Glass has increased pane thickness, ideal in areas where exterior noise is a concern.

California Fire Glass
A dual pane option where one pane is made of regular or annealed glass and the other pane is made from tempered glass, meeting California fire zone code. Infinity windows are not fire-rated.²

Low-E glass glazing options

Low E1

An option for colder climates — especially those at elevations with direct sun exposure. A single layer of coating allows UV rays to warm your home while blocking heat loss.

Low E2

Low E2 features two layers of coating that reflect heat back to the source. This glass performs year-round in moderate climates, retaining heat in the winter and keeping it out in summer.

Low E3

With three layers of coating, Low E3 keeps solar heat at bay while letting visible sunlight into your home. A popular option for climates with intense sun exposure.

Low ERS

Available in conjunction with Low E2 or Low E3, this additional layer of coating is added to the room side of the glass. Low ERS reflects heat back into the room for maximum year-round energy efficiency.

Divided lites

Simulated Divided Lites

Our Simulated Divided Lites (SDLs) are built with Ultrex^® fiberglass and permanently adhered in our factory to the outside surfaces of the glass. SDLs have a spacer bar between the panes of glass to offer the traditional look of divided lites.¹

Grilles Between the Glass

Grille bars are located between the panes of insulating glass. Grilles Between the Glass (GBGs) combine easy cleaning with the timeless detail of a grille pattern.

What are the advantages of double hung windows?

A double-hung window allows you to open the upper sash to allow warm air to escape. You can have the lower sash open at the same time to allow cool air to enter a room.

How do you open double hung windows?

Double-hung windows have a latch on the check rail that needs to be unlocked before you can slide the lower and/or upper sash up and down.

Which windows are most energy efficient?

Ultrex fiberglass windows and doors have far less thermal conductivity than rolled-form aluminum windows to help make them energy efficient. Both windows are double-paned with an inert gas fill to increase energy efficiency. Single-hung windows only have one moving sash, which leads people to consider them more energy efficient.

Are double hung windows better than single hung?

Whether double-hung windows are better than single-hung windows depends on your preference. Some like single-hung windows more if they live in a windy area because only one sash moves with a single-hung window, limiting the path for air leaks. Single-hung windows are also an option where it’s difficult to reach an upper sash to open and close it. Others enjoy double hung windows because the upper sash opens to provide better air circulation. You can also clean both sashes of an Infinity by Marvin Double-Hung Window with our easy tilt function that allows you to bring the sash into a room for interior and exterior cleaning.

Can I replace casement windows with double hung?

Yes, you can replace casement windows with double-hung windows but it needs some consideration. A double-hung window must fit the opening used for a casement window or the opening needs modifying to fit a double-hung window. Your home also needs the structural integrity to handle the swap. You’ll also want to think about how your home’s style will be impacted. Casement windows can have more contemporary design appeal versus double-hung windows, which often appear in more traditional homes.

Are double hung windows energy efficient?
